QUICK BEAUTY FIX | NIP + FAB CLEANSING PADS

Nip+Fab Skincare Goodies

I wrote about Nip + Fab Cleansing Pads a while back and am delighted to update this post with a great offer that’s just come up and I couldn’t let you miss – I know I won’t be missing it 😉 So read on to find out more…

When a product I’ve been kindly sent from a PR has me hyperventilating because it’s nearly finished, I know I have to let you know about it because it has to be good! And when it knocks time off my beauty routine, well, then there’s even more to shout about…

NIP + FAB Dragon’s Blood Fix Cleansing Pads were sent to me in a lovely package along with some other products (more news on these coming soon) and caught my eye immediately. I was about to go on holiday and needed an easy carry, easy to use cleanser and these dinky pads came up trumps!

Nip+Fab-Dragon's-Blood-Fix-Cleansing-Pads

Being somewhat slovenly – the-faster-the-better products often get a thumbs up from me even though I feel a bit guilty. You see, as an established beauty writer, I’m not sure I should admit this because I do realise that a comprehensive skincare routine such as a ‘double cleanse’ and all the other skincare steps is probably preferable for ultimate skin health, but I’m sorry, sometimes…ain’t nobody got time for dat!

I did wonder whether I would rue my choice of cleansing as my skin often doesn’t agree with some of the slap dash cleansing wipes available, but these little beauties are enriched with salicylic and hyaluronic acids to deeply cleanse pores and hydrate too. Plus its witch hazel ingredient is a gentle astringent which leaves skin feeling refreshed and zingy.

Nip-+-Fab-Dragon's-Blood-Pads

The pads are quite ‘juicy’ so after swiping them across my face and lashes (they seem gentle enough for me to do this) I am left with quite damp skin which I then blot and leave for a few minutes before applying a moisturiser and/or serum.

Being slightly pedantic, there is one little downside in that they are quite small, so sometimes – on a heavy makeup night – you may need to use two to get a thorough cleanse of the whole neck and face..or maybe that’s just my big moon face? Anyway, that aside, my skin feels extra clean and looks brighter after using these pads and so I’ll definitely be stocking up.

UPDATE: NOW FOR THE EVEN BETTER PART! I’ve just been informed that there’s a special offer on ALL the different varieties in the NIP + FAB pad range (including the Dragon’s Blood Fix Cleansing Pads) and the tubs which usually cost £12.95 or £14.95 are available for just £5! Click HERE to find out more about the range and buy them before the offer runs out at 5pm tonight!  (I’m already on the case, so you better hurry!)

Oh I do love a bargain – and a beautiful one is even better! 😉

Fabulous Facial Alert | HydraFacial

me in the sun I try not to moan too much and like to keep my blog and social media platforms full of upbeat and motivational type content. But, you know, I’m real and sometimes the Pollyanna in me goes AWOL. It was the result of a ‘woe is me’ type tweet, where I mentioned how my skin was playing up due to the adverse effects of living in a building site, that got me a very kind invitation by highly regarded skin clinic Waterhouse Young to pop in for a facial. Don’t mind if I do!

Thicker Hair in Just One Spritz!

thick hair

Not often do I come across a product that makes me go ‘What? how did that happen?’ but this hair puffer upper did exactly that!

Nanogen hair thickening spray

A quick spritz of Nanogen Root Boost Hair Thickening Spray, £9.95 really gives locks volume, oomph and lift all without leaving it feeling sticky or stiff as cardboard. You can use it on dry hair to pump up it up in between washes or on damp hair before styling for ultimate lift.

What’s the magic behind it? Well, this clever little spray contains a polymer and sea salt (the number one ingredient for volumised beachy waves and perfect festival hair). The polymer helps lift roots, coats hair strands making them look and feel thicker. And, what’s great is, it also includes proteins and moisturisers to prevent that crispy feel!

There are lots of other hair thickening products in the range which I haven’t personally checked out but I’ve heard great things from fellow bloggers, so if thin or limp hair is a problem for you, have a look at their website here

And Breathe…A Few Days Away

imageI’m off! It’s only for a few days but it’s going to be a great few days 😀

image

I’m taking a break with Stressed Husband, Little Teen and two of her pals to Spain. What will I be doing?

Sleeping under the shade of the beach umbrella, drinking cocktails, eating the fresh delicacies of Spain (plus plenty of  icecream!).

image

image

I’ll be catching up with Stressed Husband and laughing at the antics of my ever growing, hilarious youngest teen.

image

I’ll be planning, chilling and dreaming of what is in store for the future.

image

And most of all I’ll be grateful for having this breathing space in a beautiful environment and reminding myself how lucky I am.

See you soon!

Skin Rejuvenation with IPL

ageing lady

UPDATED REVIEW: 20 December 2015

I wanted to write an update to let my readers know that I’ve recently been back for my second IPL treatment with the lovely and experienced, Josi at La Pelle Skin Clinic in Chiswick. This time, Josi turned up the level to treat the hyper-pigmentation on my chest area and although it was quite a lot more painful – think short, sharp flicks to the chest followed by what felt and looked like very bad sunburn – within 4-5 days it calmed down and a couple of weeks on, the area looks much better and more even toned. The brown patches on my neck are almost gone and they’ve dramatically improved on my chest. Josi says it will take another 2-3 treatments for ultimate results, so once I have had these, I will post the before and after results.

In the meantime, if you missed my original review on IPL and all that the skin rejuvenation treatment entails, it’s here below:

Don’t Worry…Be Happy!

bloody awful cover

Recently, I’ve been fretting about all sorts of things…my wrinkly chest, trying to get more work, the disorganised, ancient clothes in my wardrobe, our building site for a house, my teen who dyes her hair a different colour each week (or every other day!), my wobbly belly, keeping up with the Jones’s… In other words, what it really boils down to is….

Fitness Trends | Piloxing

piloxing

After a particularly strenuous workout today, I started thinking about my fitness levels and, although I’m not super fit, I’ve actually surprised myself by keeping up some sort of regular exercise regime for the past couple of years. It’s become a healthy habit that I must admit, I love!

Review | Boots Time Delay BB Cream SPF 15

Time Delay BB Cream

So, it’s back to work after the long weekend. This, plus the windy, rainy weather means there’s a bit of a negative vibe in the air and I admit, it took me longer than normal to hobble hop out of bed this morning. However, my day has cheered up considerably since trying out one of my beauty buys from the weekend so I thought I’d share it with you…

Anti Ageing Hair Tricks

That ‘just stepped out of a salon’ feeling is just the best isn’t it? I popped into my regular, fantastic little salon – The Chiswick Salon – the other day for a cut and highlights that were well overdue – as you can see in the first picture below. I went in feeling a bit under the weather as I’d not been sleeping too well – and came out feeling fresher and fabulous with a definite skip in my step.

Be Happy with the Skin You’re in!

Image: Toast

I felt compelled to write a quick post on self esteem to the women or girls out there who might be feeling crappy about themselves because of the hurtful and ignorant words of Loose Women’s Jamelia. In case you don’t know, she said plus size clothes shouldn’t be available on the high street and women should be made uncomfortable when they go in a clothes shop and can’t find their size! Really. She said that.

The Lush Spa Synaesthesia Treatment

Lush soap

From the very first time I plopped a fizzing Bath Bomb into my bath and sat there smiling like a loon as the sweet aroma enveloped my skin, I was hooked on Lush! Who wouldn’t love a company that produces natural, handmade cosmetics with quirky names and formulas like Dirty Toothy Tabs and Honey I Washed My Hair Shampoo Bars? It may sound a little bit Willy Wonka bonkers but, so what? It works! So, as I wandered down the King’s Road a while back, I thought I’d pop into Lush and try their Spa – could the Synaesthesia Treatment I’d heard about live up to the weird and wonderful Lush reputation?

It’s all About the Words…’bout the Words!*

laptop in the sun

House building and developing has been a big part of my life since I met Stressed Husband a million years ago. Well, he’s a builder, so that figures. But before, it used to be him shooting off to oversee his various projects around London and the Home Counties and me doing my thing at home with the kids. Actually, I did do a quick stint as a secretary in his office years back, but try as I might, I just couldn’t hide my lack of interest in bricks and diggers and AWOL plumbers………………oops, sorry, just nodded off…Thankfully, Stressed Husband saved me by telling me I was no use to him in the office and sacking me! Phew. Thanks!

My Blogging Break

woman on rocks thinking

To my lovely, loyal readers: I apologise for the time it’s taken me to get back into the blogging groove. Life, as they say, has got (or gotten if you’ve taken on the American affliction) in the way. In fact, since the New Year, our house refurbishment has taken on epic nightmare proportions. By this, I’m talking living – and trying to work – among at least 5 builders in the house at all times 6-7 days a week, daily dust, grime, walls being knocked down, bathrooms out of action, no central heating, hormonal teens having to share rooms, flu which knocked me sideways for almost two weeks and …drum roll…no roof in the middle of winter.

building work roof off

Plus 4 weeks of me and the kids living in a rented flat while Stressed Husband and our dippy dog shivered together in the uninhabitable ‘family home’. And to think, to ease my worries about moving home – for the 4th time in 6 years – Stressed Husband sold the new house to me as needing  ‘a bit of decorating’. How naive was I? Honestly, for the past few months, life well and truly did get up close and personal, face to face and block me from living my days as I used to know them – totally.

Lisa in messy room

Adding to the stress from the house from hell, my lovely, loony 36kg Labrador tore his cruciate ligament over Christmas, and after a £4,600 op (what!? But our insurance only covers up to £4,000 per condition….cue compassionate eyes and ‘sorry not sorry’ shrug of shoulders from vet). So our darling, expensive, Troy has been housebound for almost 12 weeks. Given all of this palaver, I think you might be able to imagine – I hope – just how out of kilter life has been of late. Blogging, exercising, tweeting, working, socialising and at times – breathing – has been hard to do.

Black labrador troy

And now? Spring has sprang – yay! My doggy is on the mend and we are able to resume gentle daily walks in the park or down the river – double yay – and the kids each have their own room – triple yay! But…there is still the downstairs of the house to go – an extension meaning no kitchen – dinner will be food from a microwave or the local chippy for weeks on end…no money for anything but building work…BUT…we have a roof, hot water, heating (ironic now the weather’s improving) AND, miraculously, Stressed Husband and I are not divorced! 🙂

john on chair

This mad, bad and dangerous first quarter of 2015 has really made me stop and think about what is important and what we take for granted…like, erm, a roof. And after having had life as I once knew it, stripped away and replaced by a domestic horror story, I now realise how much I loved my ‘normal’ life, so in a way, I guess this turmoil has been a kind of blessing. Although not one I would ever, ever want to repeat again…taking note, Stressed Husband?

And, on a more positive note, I’m going to be making a few changes to the content and style of Glowology over the coming weeks to take on board a new transition that seems to have come over me during my recent experiences, along with the changes that occur, I guess naturally, to most women as we mature. Not saying beauty and glamour isn’t going to be focussing big time on the blog – it is still what makes me happy – even though I haven’t had much time to get dolled up of late! But I intend to bring in more family life and feelings and to talk about other exciting writing projects afoot So…watch this space. It’s great to be back!

A Valentine to Stressed Husband

IMG_2634

Even though you’re stressed and tired,

Your body is aching and sad,

Even though the refurb’s a nightmare,

And our dog is going mad,

Even though the kids and me miss you,

And we want to be at home,

Even though it’s tough to be apart,

With both of us feeling alone,

Remember it won’t be forever my love,

This nightmare will soon be gone,

We won’t forget how hard you’ve worked

Fixing everything that’s gone wrong!

This doesn’t mean I’m forgiving you though,

This project was your stupid idea,

So get the building finished quick

Or you’ll get more than a flea in your ear!

Oh, I forgot to buy you a Valentine’s Card but it’s fizzy Friday

tonight,

So buy me a bottle and a bite to eat,

And forgive you my darling, I might! 🙂

Happy Valentine’s Day from your exasperated but very loving wife, Lisa xx

5 Fast Ways to Feel Good NOW

 feeling good

I planned this post for a Monday, as we all know that Monday is the day we are most likely to feel a bit under the weather. In my case, with the house refurb from hell, living away from the family home with the kids while Stressed Husband is still there and trying to lead a ‘normal’ life, keeping the house, kids, husband – and dog! – happy, I sometimes feel I let myself and my feelings take a backseat. Bet you do too sometimes? Here are a few tricks I use when I need to lift my mood and feel a bit more ‘together’…

Long Hair in Your 40s – Yes You Can!

Long hair but good lighting!
Long hair but good lighting!

Yesterday, fabulous over 40s fashion blogger, Catherine Summers, at Not Dressed As Lamb asked the question in a feature she wrote for Good Housekeeping online: Can You Wear Leather Trousers Over 40, 50, 60…? The resounding reply from her readers was YES, WE CAN! I got involved with the debate on Twitter and threw in my tuppence worth which is, I wouldn’t wear them because I never have, they don’t suit my shape (I think) but I believe my gorgeous mum, who is in her 70s, could still wear them and look amazing. And today in the Daily Mail, there was another myth exposed as writer, Virginia Ironside grew her usual short locks long and proved that, even in her 70s, long hair can look wonderful! I tell you what, let’s just rip up the beauty and style rule book for over 40s and rebel…we can do, wear and be what the hell we please…with cherries on top!

All of these celebrities above look gorgeous and I’m not saying we shouldn’t be careful of entering the mutton zone, just that we should be confident enough to wear whatever makes us happy and feel good, whatever our age. What do you think?
