A Sneak Peek of Body Contouring with SculpSure

One of the most exciting – and intriguing – aspects to my week, last week, was my first session of SculpSure – the latest treatment in non-invasive body contouring to hit the UK straight from its hugely successful launch in America. If you follow me on Facebook, you may have already seen me hooked up to the space age looking equipment (and if you’re not following @ukglowology on Facebook – click here and get over there now!). Here’s how I got on…

I was delighted to be one of the first journalists/bloggers to be invited to try SculpSure by Cynosure but even more pleased that I’d be meeting up again with the lovely surgeon and cosmetic doctor, Miss Sherina Balaratnam from the S-Thetics Aesthetic Clinic in Beaconsfield. I’m always happy when Sherina drops me a line to tell me about a great new non-surgical procedure because I know from experience that when Sherina says she’s excited about something, then I will be too! The fact that S-Thetics are often one of the first clinics in the UK to get to trial some of the most ground-breaking treatments in aesthetics also shows how well regarded Sherina is in the industry. And that’s always a big plus when it comes to making a client (or little old beauty and wellbeing writer, moi) feel confident.

How does SculpSure work?

It’s totally fascinating! Basically, the fatty areas that are being treated are zapped with a laser light that passes safely (and painlessly) through the skin. The fat cells absorb this laser which heats up to between 42C and 47C, initiating a process called Apoptosis. This destroys up to 24% of fat cells for good – never to return again – and over the next 6-12 weeks after the treatment, the fat is naturally expelled from the body. What does if feel like?

Once Sherina had marked out the areas to be treated (yes, I got the flubber out all for the love of my job…plus the fact that I need all the help I can to shape up my jelly belly and I’m praying this works!) I was fitted with a belt that held in place a plastic grid into which the laser heads clipped. It all looked very Star Trek as you can see from my pictures and video, but it wasn’t at all painful. I had 2 x 25 minute treatments – one on either side of my abdomen and flanks – and time whizzed by while I checked my emails, uploaded little videos on Instagram and chatted away to Sherina and the friendly Cynosure team. Have a little look at how I got on here (and excuse the no-makeup scruffy look, I know I should’ve been more prepared to face the cameras!).

The grids that were placed on my stomach can be used in various configurations to get the perfect fit for targeting the area you’re looking to slim down. I decided on the maximum amount of attachments in an all out bid to zap as much flab as possible!

So, what now?

It’s only been two weeks since I had the treatment and there’s no change as yet, but that’s to be expected as I was told it would be at least 6 weeks until I see any difference. For about 4 days after the treatment, I felt slightly sore in the treated areas if I touched them – they felt slightly bruised, but there was definitely a lot less discomfort than I had imagined.

It’s also important to point out that SculpSure is a body contouring treatment – not a weightloss cure. It’s aimed at working in synergy with a healthy diet and exercise plan, so it’s perfect for those with a fairly normal BMI who want to get rid of those stubborn pockets of fat such as muffin top, bra bulges, saddle bags etc that are super hard to shift. After my treatment I went straight off to my usual Zumba class to give that fat a double whammy! I’ll be having another treatment around the 6 week mark and will be back with an update soon, so watch this space.

SculpSure treatment prices vary in clinics across the UK and starts from £250.
