Let’s Hear it for Bloggers over 40!

Starting a blog in your forties can be pretty daunting. Especially when you look around the ‘blogsphere’ and see that it’s brimming with effervescent, bright-as-a-button 20 somethings who have their artfully manicured fingers on the pulse of what’s hot and what’s not. So, what’s a 46 year old mum with suspect taste in glittery/leopard print stuff and a love of feel-good things to do? Give up and say “oh well, it’s their time now, best I pack away my creaky old ideas and get back to the kitchen sink”? Hell, no (although it has crossed my mind a few times since starting Glowology). What is my blog about if it’s not about helping us ordinary, fabulous women in our 40’s and beyond feel vital and relevant in today’s ‘obsessed with youth’ society? And no matter how insecure or unsure us over 40’s might sometimes feel, this round up of my favourite, brilliant over 40 style bloggers, shows that we have something those whipper snapper, young ‘uns haven’t got (and it’s not just hot flushes) It’s life experience! And that alone makes us worth listening to…so read on!

Catherine, Not Dresses As Lamb
Catherine, Not Dressed As Lamb

Catherine, at Not Dressed As Lamb (fabulous name!) looks amazing and shows us how cutting edge fashion can be done – if that’s what we want. She doesn’t listen to the fashion rules – she breaks them and invents better ones! She has also just written a great post on Why It’s Great Being a Fashion Blogger over 40.

Jenni,_Nonstopmama

My old (meaning former) colleague and friend, Jenni at Nonstopmama is a fellow beauty lover and if there’s a fake tan expert to be reckoned with – it’s her! I can always rely on Jenni to fill me in on what’s coming to a beauty shelf near me that I’m going to love. Hers is the perfect blog for a bright, breezy, feel-good read.

Style at Every Age
Style at Every Age

Sharron over at Style at Every Age says it how it is with her blog strap-line ‘Because Fashion Doesn’t Have to End at Forty’ Here, here! I really enjoy her down-to-earth, approachable writing style and fashion advice.

The Online Stylist
The Online Stylist

One of the first blogs I ever started to read when I became interested in writing one myself, was Amanda’s at The Online StylistApart from her uncanny knack of showcasing the very pieces you would choose yourself from a fashion brand’s latest collection, Amanda’s recent move to bring more general lifestyle features to her blog has made it even more applicable to me and I greet her Life’s Small Pleasures posts with glee!

So, if you’re over 40 and thinking of starting a blog – go for it – or if you’ve found any you want to share, I’d love to know!

  1. Thanks for this roundup it’s nice to find some other 40+ bloggers. I must admit I do sometimes feel ancient but I think us over 40’s know much better what suits us.

Lisa thank you – I’m so flattered!!! It’s so nice to have got everyone talking with the post I wrote, and that’s a really great thing. Who really gives a flying monkeys what age we are… as long as we don’t allow others to make us *feel* ancient then we never will be!! Great to find some more 40+ bloggers in the UK – I’m always on the lookout for more…!

    • Hi Catherine – you’re welcome! Thank you so much for popping by to my blog. I must say I am so inspired by the over 40 bloggers out there (inluding yours obvs!). Age is just a number and the older I get, the more that saying becomes relevant. I love your blog – keep up the great work.

  3. I turned 40 last year and I have to say I am loving it – I feel I am the most confident I have ever been and the wisest too! I’m more stylish than ever and think I am in my prime right now! It’s been a long old emotional ride to get here and I hope it’s not downhill from now on!

Pleased to have found your blog

    • Hi Fiona – thanks for dropping by to Glowology! Glad you’re feeling the glow at 40! I agree and think that 40’s and 50’s are prime time for us modern women. It’s definitely up, up, up from here – not downhill! Lol. Have a great weekend! x

  4. Hi there, I’m 46 and blog about travel, meditation, my life (and my cats!) over at Soothed in the CIty. Writing about travel and how it fits into my life with three teenage children, I’m really in a minority when most travel bloggers are in their 20s and planning their next six months in Bali/Thaialnd/some other exotic destination. So was really pleased to come across this!

    • Hi Paula, thank you for reading my blog! I will pop over to yours and have a gander, it sounds really interesting – I love travel and like you have 3 older kids. I think nowadays there’s room for us all in the blogosphere whatever our age…which is fabulous! x

  5. Hi there! I’ve just found your blog. It’s great to know that there’s a few of us 40 somethings who are not afraid of technology and can blog beyond the ‘mummy topics’. Being a new empty nester means I can now spend more time on ‘Me’, so I’m just discovering a life as an empty nester and nurturing a new life with my partner. It’s great to see there are lots of other 40+ bloggers out there as I thought I was one of a few.

Hi Shirly – lovely of you to comment on my blog, thank you! Yes I think there are more and more of us post 40 and 50 bloggers and it’s great! It’s a really exciting time in the blogosphere to connect with like-minded women where age is definitely NOT an issue! Keep in touch! Lisa
