2017 is not a bad time in which to be almost 50 or, in fact 60, 70 and beyond. Not only do we have amazing role models in the public eye like Susan Sarandon and Dame Helen Mirren who give the youngsters a run for their money on the red carpet – even overshadowing them sometimes – with their sheer sass and chutzpah. But the over 40s blogging scene is exploding with fabulous women celebrating their age and giving a two finger salute to anyone who dares tell them they ‘shouldn’t be doing this’…or ‘wearing that’ at ‘your age’….O.M.G. The very thought…excuse me while I take a moment!
I’m so pleased to introduce you to the delightful and very knowledgable, Tricia Cusden, founder of Look Fabulous Forever which, if you haven’t heard of before and you’re a woman of a certain age, you will thank me forever for alerting you to! ☺ Look Fabulous Forever will help you do just that. Read on for Tricia’s nuggets of wellbeing and beauty wisdom…
It’s Friday (YAY!) and I’m bringing you my latest beauty favourite. I’ve actually been using these particularly products since around July but wanted to wait until I’d finished them to give a true account of how I got on with them. I’m now desperately scraping out the final remnants, wishing they would go on and on, so I guess you can tell by that they’ve been great!
I’ve always been a fan of CACI treatments and remember that when they first came out – many years ago – they were heralded as the non-surgical ‘facelift’ responsible for the ever-youthful complexions of celebrities such as Jennifer Lopez, Jennifer Aniston and Sadie Frost. Before long, many well preserved celebrities admitted to regular CACI micro-current facials to keep the dreaded saggy, hang-dog jowls at bay. I recently wrote about how much Anthea Turner loves them for their firming benefits too and you can read that post here.
You’ve probably read about facial massage being good for your skin, but if you’re anything like me, you probably feel a little bit confused and not sure where to start. So, good news! on my quest for finding out how to keep skin looking youthful and healthy without spending fortune and while also giving yourself a big wellbeing boost at the same time, I came across this wonderful video by fabulous, International makeup artist Lisa Eldridge, who’s worked on the most famous faces in the world (oh, how I’d love to dive into her makeup cupboard…pure bliss!).
You know I can’t get enough of speedy beauty. Anything that makes me feel good and look good in super quick time is always going to be a winner; whether it’s a double duty product that makes skin feel fab while tackling wrinkles at the same time, a makeup item that gets me from blah to bodacious (or just decent enough) in five minutes flat or a fast workout (like this one I mentioned last week). Feeling good and looking good with minimum effort and as quickly as possible is always my aim and so that’s why I’m excited to introduce you to this wonderful little gem…The Light Salon.
I try not to moan too much and like to keep my blog and social media platforms full of upbeat and motivational type content. But, you know, I’m real and sometimes the Pollyanna in me goes AWOL. It was the result of a ‘woe is me’ type tweet, where I mentioned how my skin was playing up due to the adverse effects of living in a building site, that got me a very kind invitation by highly regarded skin clinic Waterhouse Young to pop in for a facial. Don’t mind if I do!
UPDATED REVIEW: 20 December 2015
I wanted to write an update to let my readers know that I’ve recently been back for my second IPL treatment with the lovely and experienced, Josi at La Pelle Skin Clinic in Chiswick. This time, Josi turned up the level to treat the hyper-pigmentation on my chest area and although it was quite a lot more painful – think short, sharp flicks to the chest followed by what felt and looked like very bad sunburn – within 4-5 days it calmed down and a couple of weeks on, the area looks much better and more even toned. The brown patches on my neck are almost gone and they’ve dramatically improved on my chest. Josi says it will take another 2-3 treatments for ultimate results, so once I have had these, I will post the before and after results.
In the meantime, if you missed my original review on IPL and all that the skin rejuvenation treatment entails, it’s here below:
Many products that I kindly get sent for consideration to review on my blog or to possibly include in features I write for magazines, always get a thorough testing. As do the products I buy myself – and, as I’m an advertiser’s dream (aka sucker) there are many, I can tell you. Some work well and I like to let my readers know about them, others can be a bit disappointing, so I don’t mention them as I don’t like to write negative posts. Today’s post is all about a great little skin treat that has sent my brilliant beauty buy alert into overdrive…
To say that winning a place on the Cosmedic Coach’s The Build a Beauty Blog Workshop last Saturday morning was one of the the highlights of my year, is an understatement. I was thrilled to be invited along for free to the beautiful – very pink – Indigo room at the stylish Soho Hotel to meet other like minded beauty and cosmetic fanatics. Meeting Cosmedic Coach Antonia Mariconda, was a treat in itself (let me tell you, what she doesn’t know about cosmetic surgery, anti-ageing, beauty and marketing a successful beauty blog, isn’t worth knowing!) Her online presence on Twitter is astounding (she has over 40,000 followers) and to get a chance to talk to her and listen to her words of wisdom was exciting and inspiring. Lucky old me!
As well as the fascinating story of how Antonia got to where she is today – blooming hard work, tenacity and plenty of savvy – we got to hear from Mark Bugg – Web Marketing Consultant, or to me, Tech Wizard Extraordinaire who spoke about getting your blog noticed for the right reasons: choosing the right blogging platform (WordPress – yay!), hosting, why you should be Google Plusing and You Tubing (I will, I will, I promise…) and how to make sure it looks good, is easy to navigate as well as giving us plenty of tricks and tips to get readers looking at your blog and then staying to look around. What I loved about Mark was he didn’t use complicated jargon and he was the sort of guy you could ask a question (our audience asked lots) and he didn’t look at you as if you just asked him if 2 plus 2 equals 4 – other tech types take note – you can be condescending and down right intimidating! Antonia interjected every know and then to ask Mark her own questions – things that she thought we would want to know and so it made for a really informal, friendly session which helped us glean a lot of well worth knowing stuff.
When lovely PR, Jenny Pabila from Niche PR came up to talk to us about how we can build up relationships with PRs I had an inkling I knew her already, and when she mentioned her past career, I realised that our paths had crossed many times over the years. We’d both started out in the beauty industry (her PR and me, journalism) at around the same time – too many years ago to mention! Although I already have quite a good relationship with many PRs because of my writing for magazines/online, it was still interesting and useful to listen to Jenny giving us her invaluable advice – she reaffirmed my belief that it doesn’t matter who you are, or what stage of your career you’re at, friendliness and good old fashion manners will always be the number one way of getting yourself noticed and is the best way to move forward in any career and, I’d say, in life in general.
As well as the fabulous speakers and all of the brilliant advice and personal career stories that they had to share – there was more…much more! The goody bags we left with were amazing – filled to the brim with beauty and wellbeing goodies kindly donated by companies who were happy for us bloggers to try and hopefully review. What a great way of making new contacts! And what with me being the lucky winner of the workshop – I got an extra large beauty hamper! In fact, it was a good job that my daughter was passing by the area as it took the two of us to carry it all home 🙂 And yes, she had her hands in it picking out her favourites before I had time to leave the hotel!
I’ve been trying lots and lots of the products we were given that day and so will be reviewing them in posts to come – can’t wait to feed back the news to my lovely readers. And, if you’re interested in finding out more about Antonia and other workshops that she will be running, you should check out her blog here.
All that’s left for me to say is a massive big thank you to Antonia, Mark and Jenny for having inspired me more and given me more useful advice and things to think about in just a few hours than any other workshop/course I’ve attended that’s lasted days!
