Beauty Flash Friday: Laura Geller Nude Kisses Lip Hugging Lip Gloss

It’s Friiiiidaaaaaaay! And I am really looking forward to a weekend with not much in the way of plans. There will be sunshine, there will be fizzy and there will be playing around and finding out all about my new, latest love – VLOGGING! But more on that soon. Right now, I just want to reiterate my love  for the Laura Geller Nude Kisses Lip Gloss and give you a more detailed review than that which I put on my vlog on Monday 🙂 You can read about it and watch the vlog HERE

So, why do I love these glosses so much? Well, as a woman who likes a no-fuss, natural look most of the time and one that won’t exaggerate lip wrinkles if possible, I LOVE a nude lip. It seems to work for me and I reckon it will for most over 40s. But, if you love to rock a red lip or something a little more vibrant, that’s great too and I admire a strong lip look, but it’s not something that, for me, is so easy to achieve.

I was over excited when I got the press release about these lip glosses – there were 16 – hear me people – SIXTEEN! – nude shades in the range. Now, some people might say, ‘well, why would you want 16 shades which are all very similar? ‘ Let me tell those people, you haven’t looked in my makeup bag and seen 100 shades of various textured lip products, that are all very similar but are NOT quite the same. So there! I’m a nudist – and I’m proud! Take that which way you want to (but being a nudist does actually only refer to my passion for lipstick hues – I don’t have a passion for flinging off my kit and flapping free in the wind!)

So, getting back to the Laura Geller glosses – they are ultra-creamy and comforting on the lips, the sponge tip has a little dent in it which fits on the curve of the lip and makes applying even easier – result! I mean, slicking on a nude gloss is easy for everyone – and it just got quicker and easier – what’s  not to love?

The glosses are moisturising too – great for my lips that are definitely dryer in the summer rather than winter funnily enough – and the coverage is sheer to medium with a non-sticky shine. Perfect!

Another thing I think is amazing about the size of the range is that you will definitely find a shade to suit your skin tone and what I am wearing now with a tan, will no doubt change in the colder months when my skin is much paler.

And don’t forget those soft peachy, pinky tones really do give you a plumped up, fuller looking lip – truly like yours but better  – a phrase the beauty world likes to tag on to every makeup product that comes onto the market. Take note brands – we’ve heard it all before – but, then again, is there a cleverer way to describe a product that makes you look like you, but a  new improved version? Maybe not! So let’s go with it.

If you want to check out the shades and read a bit more about them you’ll find these heavenly lip glosses here at feelunique.com or debenhams.com for £16.

Let’s hear it for the nudists! Do you love a barely there lipstick? What’s your favourite shade?

Jumping In To Beauty Vlogging!

I was having a little Monday morning chat with my friend Dorota from Hypoxi – you know I love it there – click HERE to find out why.  And she said, ‘you’re so easy to talk to, why don’t you do YouTube.’ YouTube?! (insert horror face emoji here) me? 50 year old non-stop natterer who forgets what she was talking about mid-sentence (thanks menopause) and whose train of thought is as messy and disorganised as my kitchen cupboards (Stressed Husband will vouch for that as he’s always getting bonked on the head by a random falling can of beans or loaf of bread whenever he ventures near.) So, basically, with my level of forgetfulness and scatty-ness, I laughed at Dorota’s suggestion. Obviously…

Then I went and did it! I just made a really badly lit, badly scripted (there was no script) video all about my favourite beauty bits that I’m using at the moment. Basically, I came back from the dog walk and plonked my camera up on a shoebox at the dining room table aka my office and chatted a bit about why I love the products I’m using at the moment. So, what I’m trying to say is – I felt the fear and did it anyway!

Before I get trolled or laughed off the blogosphere and YouTube-sphere (eh?) please cut me some slack – I thought the best way to start even thinking about doing videos and making them look all sleek and professional is just to jump in and lose my vlog-ginity – so I did. Remember, be kind!

The products that I spoke about in this vid really are fabulous, so do check them out and click on the names below to see where you can find out more and purchase them.

Also, don’t be alarmed – if I decide to carry on vlogging I promise I will make it more pro-looking and I will comb my hair. Oh, and please subscribe to my YouTube Channel (never thought I’d hear me saying that!)

Are You Invisible When You Reach 50?

Who else tries to limit themselves to 10 minutes max on the Daily Mail Online? And who else fails miserably, winding up goggly eyed, scrolling through stories about which Z-list celebs have just secured a £10,000,000,000,000 contract to be the Face of Flatulence or whatever new perfume/makeup/clothing line is hoping to be the next Kardashian inspired money making hit? I really hope I’m not alone here! Now, apart from the reality TV tripe, there is often a story or two that catches my eye, like the recent one by extremely talented novelist, Raffaella Barker, where she writes about feeling invisible at times and imparts the ways she has helped overcome that. So, my question to you is: Do you ever feel invisible?

Easy Ways To Light Up Your Eyes

I hope you all had a wonderful Easter and a relaxing looooooooong weekend! I know I did. So busy drinking cocktails relaxing was I that I barely bothered to check my Twitter and Instagram accounts and even Facebook only got a cursory daily scroll through. Putting FOMO (that’s Fear Of Missing Out, mother) aside, I found that I really liked my mini digital detox and have vowed to do it more often.

Women Like Us with Anthea Turner

Anthea Turner-2

I’ve been lucky to work with some wonderful magazines and clients over the years and one that I have huge respect for is Bodyvie Medi-Clinic in Richmond, Surrey. Its professionalism, high-tech non-surgical treatments and friendly, experienced aesthetic and medical team makes it a favourite among local mums and celebrities alike and it was while working with them, I got to find that one of their regular clients is television presenter Anthea Turner. Watching her on Loose Women recently got me thinking – even with her busy working life and being a regular at glittery, celebrity events, she seemed so down to earth and fun. Perhaps, I thought, she would be one of my fabulous Women Like Us. Serendipity stepped in when Bodyvie asked me to contact Anthea to write about her beauty tips for their blog and I was thrilled when she said she’d be happy to be featured on Glowology too. Thanks Anthea! So less faffing from me and more goss from her…let’s go!

The Sass – Where do you Find Yours?

the-sass-blogAs you may know, I’m all for hot looking mamas over 40 strutting their stuff and being strong, powerful women in the workplace and at home. I totally love glamour and beauty but, as I age, I realise it’s not all about the looks – it’s more about The Sass.

What is The Sass?

The Sass…it’s knowing you wake up with crumply eyelids and a line from your pillow on your cheek that makes you look like you’ve had a run in with a gangland criminal. But you apply your kick ass mascara and glossy lips anyway – you can see through the crinkles to the beauty beyond.

The Sass…it’s pulling on your skinny jeans and failing to contain that bulge of flappy, apron-like skin that refuses to be shoved down beneath the waistline and hidden from view. But you stride out of the house and go about your day with a laugh and a ‘who gives a f***’ flick of the hair anyway.

The Sass…it’s about rocking that leopard print shirt or your pleather leggings with a flourish, despite that little voice in your head saying ‘isn’t it about time you packed away those items of clothing with your ra-ra skirt and Disney t-shirts?’ Balls. No!

The Sass…it’s about looking at your young daughters and their friends with their smooth skin, flat tummies and clothes-friendly bodies and telling them “Don’t ever worry about growing older and losing your looks because looks aren’t everything. But whatever you do, just don’t lose your SASS!”

The Sass comes in all shapes and sizes and knows no age limits and my message to you is that, even if some days you feel that your sass has deserted you – it hasn’t. If you look hard enough, you might just see it glinting back at you. Perhaps it’s tucked underneath those red cowboy boots that you’ve given up wearing for fear of looking like mutton – or maybe it’s hidden in your makeup bag among the safe beige and brown eyeshadows?

And if you still can’t find it, I’ll let you into a secret. Sass never fails to turn up around a table where you sit with a bottle of bubbly and some fabulous friends!

Here’s to Your Sass…wherever you may find it – don’t let it go!

5 Ways to Keep Your Festive Fizz

beautiful girl at christmas

So the time is finally here take a break from your normal every day life and start thinking about Christmas and all the joy – and stress – it brings. Being a California girl at heart (in a west London girl’s body) I feel a little less excited about Christmas than I do hot sunny holidays and beaches – especially now my children have grown up and Santa and innocent nativity plays have made way for eye watering expensive present lists, snap chatting selfies and hangovers (and that’s just me and Stressed Husband!). I’m not a total bah humbug though as I can definitely understand the excitement about eating and drinking all the chocolate and champagne you can get your hands on – without guilt – and spending time with loved ones and chilling out in onesies infant of the TV.  One thing I do believe is that where there is celebration, there is glamour and happiness (even in a onesie) and here’s how to keep your own festive fizz bubbling this holiday…

My Fab Five Beauty Greats

all the products

It was only when I noticed that I was being drawn daily to the same five beauty products that I realised I had to share their wonderfulness with you. I’m lucky to be sent products by some great PRs to review for features I’m writing for women’s magazines or for my blog which means I often swap and change – sometimes trying out as many as 3 or 4 moisturisers in one week. So when I find a product that I keep returning to – you know it’s got to be a goodie. So, without further ado, and in no particular order, I would like to introduce you to my latest Fab Five Beauty Greats…

Garnier Body Oil

Garnier Body Oil Beauty Lotion is my best friend after a shower. While my skin is still slightly damp, a few pumps of this lotion slathered onto the whole body is all I need to keep my skin feeling soft and smelling gorgeous! I love the pump action of this bottle – it’s so quick and easy to use and mess free. It’s great for when I’m in a rush as there’s no faffing around taking off and replacing lids so it means I’ve got no excuse not to just ‘pump and go’! It contains 4 nourishing oils: Argan, Macadamia, Almond and Rose which help to replenish the skin with moisture and protect it from drying out. On the back of the bottle it says that during a 1 week consumer test taken by 41 women, 95% agreed there was a noticeable smoothness to skin and 78% noticed a visible difference in radiance. What’s more, it’s only £6.99 and one bottle lasts for yonks!

excuviance cleansing creme

Next up is Exuviance Gentle Cleansing Creme. This is from a dermatologist developed skincare range which I hadn’t heard about until I received this product as one of the amazing freebies at the brilliant Antonia Mariconda’s Beauty Blogger’s Workshop which I wrote about here.

Now, this came at quite an opportune time for me because (and here’s where I tell you my sordid secret) I’ve been trying to wean myself off cleansing with facial wipes. Yep, I’ve admitted it. I feel like I should be thrown into a beauty editor’s prison alongside those who secretly forgo the SPF30 or trim their own fringes with toenail scissors! So, I grabbed the chance of trying this and you know what? It’s so lovely that I’ve finally given up those skin drying facial wipes for good…or until the next time I have a  late night and can’t be bothered…shhh.

My dry, sensitive skin has blossomed over the few weeks I’ve been using this cleanser. After applying it to moistened skin I massage it in so that the soothing ingredients like extracts of Cucumber Fruit, Rosemary Leaf and Aloe Leaf condition while the anti ageing ingredient Polyhydroxy Acid (PHA) protects and hydrates. It’s great for all skin types and if you’ve been looking for a gentle, anti ageing cleanser that can remove all traces of makeup and still leave skin feeling fresh, clean and soft, you can stop looking. This is it! It’s a bit pricey at around £39 but its a very high quality product which works wonderfully and what’s better is I’ve just found it on offer for £29.50 at www.effortlessskin.com.

mark hill shampoo

Mark Hill Little Hottie Does It All Everyday Shampoo is one of those handy little tubes that you can chuck in a gym bag or take away on holiday and it’s a formula that suits all hair types. It’s the ideal every day shampoo and all five of us in my family have used it and loved it – even my 18 year old son who is very particular about his haircare! I really like its light, slightly fruity fragrance and the fact that it contains a heat protector and seems to moisturise my dry hair enough so that I only need a small dollop of conditioner afterwards to leave it feeling in good condition. Being so small – and cheap at £1.99, I need to stock up and I think I’ll get a few for all the family

moisture serum

Rajeunir Moisture Serum is what I would term a ‘hero’ product. A hero product is what lots of women’s magazines and big beauty companies are now calling their favourite beauty finds – basically, it’s a product which rises above the rest. A bit like how some models have now become super rather than just models – but whatever, this is definitely one of mine! As you can see, I’ve nearly finished this tube. I fell in love with it on my recent American road trip and it’s been part of my skincare regime since then. I was asked by its lovely PR to try this and so I took it to America – along with another huge amount of creams and lotions – and found that by the end of the 14 day holiday, this was the one that I kept going back to. Why? Well, first and foremost it’s easy to use because it’s formulated to be a 5 in 1 product – day cream, night cream, eye cream, serum and primer meaning, if I’d read the label properly, I wouldn’t even have had to take all those other creams on holiday with me!

serum swatch

This moisture serum feels like a gel and lotion in one and smoothes on like a velvety textured primer. I found my skin – especially after having quite a bit of sun exposure – would drink this up and be left feeling supple and smooth. Its host of specially formulated ingredients are too many to name in one post but just some of the purposes they serve are to add plumpness to the skin, smooth fine lines, strengthen and neutralise environmental pollutants. It really suits my 47 year old skin and I think it’s a must-have for any over 40 to keep in their cosmetic drawer. Another pricey one at £42 from www.rajeunir.co.uk but I know I’ll be forking out for it once this tube is over!

vitage colour minerals blush pot

Vitage Colour Minerals Natural Lip & Cheek Colour in Love Poppy is one of those useful little double duty products (you can see this post has a theme – I love a product that can solve more than one beauty dilemma!) that my life is all about. It’s quick, easy and makes me look and feel better when I use it. Full stop. The Vitage range of makeup uses only natural minerals with no preservatives or chemicals and the strength of the colour pigment in this little pot is incredible. As you can see from the colour and swatch above, only a tiny little bit is needed to give cheeks a healthy flush. For lips I dab it on with my finger and use a clear gloss over the top and in an instant I look ready to go. The pots cost £16 and you can find them here.

So, I hope you enjoyed this round up of my Fab Five Beauty Greats as much as I’ve enjoyed telling you about them. If you’ve got any beauty must-haves please let me know – there’s always room in my makeup box for more! See you soon. x

Summer Beauty Favourites|Part 2

Me and Stressed Husband chilling in Devon
Me and Stressed Husband chilling in Devon

I love August. Not just because it’s my birthday month but because it’s the time when we take full advantage of the warm weather and try to escape the stresses of a busy work and family life by having a couple of lovely long weekends away in Devon. But I even adore the weekends spent chilling at home where we are lucky to live just by the river – and we take full advantage of the quaint riverside pubs as our Facebook check-ins will testify! We’ve been so spoilt this year with the glorious weather and as a Leo sun lover, it has delighted me no end; you won’t catch me complaining that it’s too hot!  So to keep me looking and feeling as glorious and bright as the sunshine, I’ve got a few more fabulous summer beauty must-haves which I promised to bring you in my last post – you can read it by clicking here if you missed it…

Summer Skin Favourites

I don’t know about you but I find that the tiniest peek of sun and my skin starts to look a hundred times better. I know I’m lucky to have skin which tans easily – even though I do make sure I slap on the sunscreen daily – but those bugbears like undereye shadows and blemishes in general, just seem to improve when your face has a sunkissed hue. I’m all for keeping it natural and going back to basics with a healthy looking complexion come the summer months – letting skin breathe with lighter coverage and just a few summer staples…

CC Cream Crazy

CC cream

With the weather not being able to make up its mind at the moment, I’m finding it’s having an impact on the makeup that I’m wearing: Am I going for a hint of a tint to liven up my pasty, rainy day face? Or, ah! There’s a little glow on my cheeks from the sun we had yesterday, so I’ll just need something light with an SPF. Chopping and changing my base means I’ve been trying a few new products and have found some really great ones that I thought I’d share with you – just incase you’re looking for some fabalicious face treats!

Let’s Join in the Makeup Revolution

Since I last posted, I’m delighted to have started receiving writing commissions again and it looks like Glowology has caught the eye of other bloggers and industry insiders because I’ve been lucky enough to start receiving exciting invitations to beauty and wellbeing launches. So, as well as my regular musings on ways to help feel and look your fabulous best, I now have the opportunity to review some great new products and treatments and report back to my lovely readers about what’s new out there that might help put a little glow into your life…

Timeless Beauty Makeup Range by Joan Collins

It was only a matter of time before Queen of the Divas, our Joan, launched a range of cosmetics comprising makeup, skincare and fragrance. Globally recognised for her 24/7 perfect maquillage, I can’t believe it’s been this long in the making. But it is worth the wait. It is named, like the lady herself, Joan Collins Timeless Beauty.

Why I Love to Blush

It dawned on me today as I dipped my finger in a little pot of cream blush that, more and more, it is the beauty product that I can’t do without. Apart from the welcome addition of colour it gives to a wintery pale complexion, us over 40s showing a little less flush of youth than we’d like, should never be without it

Do you remember your first foray into the world of cosmetics? I do. I was about 10 when I discovered roller-ball lip-glosses which I would excitedly apply in the loo between school lessons and then stare in the mirror, mesmerised by the way they made my lips look prettier, plumper and just a little more ‘Charlie’s Angel’. Never mind that the flavour and smell of the glosses – cherry, tangerine and peppermint – were overpoweringly sickly or that the gloop factor meant constantly detaching permed strands of hair from my lips. I was smitten from that first slick.

5 Ways to Feel Great – NOW!

Ever caught a glimpse in the mirror or a shop window while whizzing on your way to work or from the school run and thought ‘what’s that old lady/scruff pot/out of shape mama doing wearing my coat?’ Once the realisation hits that the unflattering reflection actually belongs to you, you’ve got two choices: Give up and wallow in self pity thinking your beautiful best days are over, or…pull yourself together and get back that feel good vibe. Here are five ways to kick start you on your way from woeful to wonderful…
