When I was a young girl, living at home with my parents and not having to deal with the financial or domestic responsibilities of life, the word stress conjured up images of fat suited business men rushing around trying to seal important deals, it certainly wasn’t something that I thought would ever impact my laid-back life. Oh, how funny that sounds now – now that I’m living with Stressed Husband (not a suited business man but a very busy builder) fondly known by the acronym – FCoL – on the family group chat (For Crying out Loud!) Pair him with boomeranging kidults with their own problems that somehow transpire into my problems – even though that isn’t intended (as mums, we will always worry about – and for – our offspring), you might start to see where I’m going here?
Don’t even talk to me about the recent household upheaval of 5 adults living under one roof (7 when the partners stay over.) As Matriarch of the house, overseeing the chaos of it all, I am contending with different eating habits, hectic work schedules, cleaning rotas (that get ignored), and with only one semi-functioning bathroom at the moment (dodgy plumbing means it takes at least 2 hours to fill the bath) you could say that stress has well and truly pulled up a chair and is sitting between us all at the dining table, gloating. Well, not any more!
As April is Stress Awareness Month, it has made me think long and hard about what I can do to help curb my own stress. I know it can be dangerous if not controlled, causing or exacerbating many serious health problems such as mental health problems like depression and anxiety, and cardiovascular disease including heart disease, high blood pressure, abnormal heart rhythms, heart attacks, and stroke. So, to get a grip on my worries before they spiral out of control, my new action plan consists of daily meditation – literally, 5-10 minutes of being still and quiet and letting my mind clear and a river walk (which Stressed Husband joins in if there’s a trip to the pub involved). And now, this little stress-busting weapon below is also assisting me on the journey to calmer, healthier living. Come and join me – let’s chill out!
Helpful Herbs with Dr Dünner PhytoVitality
I was happy to collaborate with Dr Dünner PhytoVitality because Glowology is all about finding ways of looking after ourselves as we age – our health, looks and total wellbeing. Leading a happy, positive life is the most important thing to me and that’s why I love sharing ways we can all benefit. Phytovitality harnesses the powerful, health-supporting properties of plants and for decades, Dr Dünner has been handpicking the finest ingredients from the Swiss Alpine peaks. Here the crystalline lakes and super green meadows look how I imagine heaven to be – so it must be full of healthy goodness! Once picked, scientists create wonderfully balanced blends in small batches in order to preserve their potency.
The high quality herb blend that I’m taking is ideal for relieving stress as it includes ingredients chosen for their mind/body balancing and calming properties: Ashwagandha, used in Far Eastern cultures for inner tranquility and clarity of mind, Basil – called the ‘King of Herbs’ which is said to create resilience and the super B vitamin, Biotin which contributes to normal psychological function as well as the normal functioning of the nervous system.
I find it alarming that years ago, my mum, along with many others diagnosed then as ‘highly strung’, were prescribed Valium when going through particularly stressful times. Thankfully times have changed and the options now available for our health and wellbeing have progressed. We now know the dangers of certain medications and we are also aware of effective and natural remedies, like Dr Dünner.
I’m 10 days into my pack of PhytoVitality Ashwagandha, Basil and Biotin Capsules and so far so good – one a day, washed down with a glass of water and a HRT pill, seems to be keeping me cool, calm and collected amidst the home-life havoc. I am also pleased I’ve been able to recommend this vegan-suitable supplement to a health conscious friend who was shocked to find out recently that, after a particularly stressful year, her blood pressure has gone sky high, so she has also started taking Dr Dünner PhytoVitality supplement to support other methods of reducing her stress. As the Dr Dünner tagline says, it’s a helping hand for our hectic lifestyles. And boy, do we need it!
You can find out more about the amazing background of these beautifully balanced botanicals, Dr Dünner and the ranges of PhytoVitality here. They cost £25.99 for 60 day supply from leading health food shops such as Holland & Barrett.
Here’s to a relaxed and zen like April for us all!
