I love looking at beautifully made up eyes and am aware of the stunning transformation a few different shades of shadow can make. But honestly, since I’ve had the kids, although I love makeup – and as a beauty journalist, it has been a big part of my career – I’ve never really taken the time to experiment with new looks. There always seems to be something more pressing to tend to, so the fail safe black mascara, dark brown liner and, possibly if I’m going out, sweep of neutral or brown shadow has been my look du jour – et le soir.
Since starting this blog though, I feel a resurgence of excitement with all the different cosmetics available and think it’s about time I started trying out a few new looks. So, to get me on my way I’ve been scouring magazines and Pinterest for inspiration with the following requirements in mind: It has to be easy and quick and it has to be striking. And now I have the answer: Welcome to my latest obsession: GOLD EYELINER.
I looked on the shelves at Boots and was pleased to see there were lots of different brands sporting eyeliners of various metallic marvellousness and so you can easily pick up a liner for under a tenner. I chose Maybelline Master Drama Chromatics in Vibrant Gold, a snip at £4.49.
I’ve not tried any of the more expensive brands, but really, with this creamy, easy glide texture and the gorgeous old gold shimmer, I don’t really feel I need to find another gold eyeliner as this is just perfect! It looks fab on the upper lids close to the lash line and a little bit on the inner corner of the bottom lash line really makes eyes look brighter. I’ve experimented with wearing this during the day and it works perfectly well if used subtly. For the evening, I just make the line a little thicker and apply it above a line of black for real drama.
Are you tempted to go for gold?
