Research has shown that one of the many excuses we use for not getting off our butts and starting an exercise plan is expense. Gym memberships can be quite costly, sports gear can cost a fortune…STOP! I don’t want any nodding in agreement to that last statement because it’s NOT true! Now, put down that donut and listen up!
Personal Training on the Cheap
A course of sessions with a personal trainer can run into hundreds, that’s true. But, my favourite fitness instructor, Anny Hooker from Personal Best Studios who I’ve mentioned before here, let me into a savvy secret: “If you’re looking for more individually focused training, why not get a friend or two and hire a trainer together. You’ll get more attention than in a big class and you’ll have the motivation of exercising with your friends.”
Cut Price Gyms
There are some great high-cost gyms that offer all the extras such as sauna/jacuzzi, pool, cafe and beauty treatments and if that floats your boat and you can afford it, that’s great. But, today’s local leisure centres and gyms have really upped their game and if you haven’t been for a while, you might be surprised. Fusion Fitness has partnered up with councils and now has leisure centres across the country offering state of the art gym equipment, pools, creches and large, spacious workout studios. At the moment they have a special offer of 12 month membership for the price of 10 which can work out to as little as around £10 per month. Look here for more info. If you’re not sure about getting a membership, you could try Pay as U Gym where you can get flexible memberships without being tied in.
Bargain Workout Wear
I adore sportswear favourites, Sweaty Betty and have invested in a couple of pieces over the years even though it is pretty costly. This year, I’m so impressed with the less expensive brands that have high jumped onto the sportswear scene. I wouldn’t have thought of Primark for gym stuff but once I saw both my teen daughters decked out head to toe in it I changed my mind! They looked great (yes, the toned tummies and long legs helped) but even my seen-better-days-body can carry off their Spring/Summer 2014 range and look okay doing so. With great styles and pieces from Primark and H&M there’s now no need to compromise on style while wobbling and sweating!
Cameron’s Cut Price Tips
If you’ve not picked up a copy of The Body Book by Cameron Diaz with Sandra Bark (HaperCollins), £16.99, you should. Ok, so reading it might not make us look like her, but it is full of sensible, do-able ways to keep fit, look fab and generally feel confident and happy with our bodies. Cameron advocates simple every day changes that will fit into your lifestyle such as just getting a move on and walking, climbing the stairs and even doing 20 star jumps to give our hearts a little boost in the middle of the day. If it’s good enough for Cam, it’s good enough for me!
There’s no excuse really is there? So, why not finish off that donut now and get your trainers on…As someone once said, you don’t have to see the whole staircase to take the first step.
