Why I Love to Blush

It dawned on me today as I dipped my finger in a little pot of cream blush that, more and more, it is the beauty product that I can’t do without. Apart from the welcome addition of colour it gives to a wintery pale complexion, us over 40s showing a little less flush of youth than we’d like, should never be without it

Cream blush is my texture of choice because it smoothes onto my skin better than a powder, it’s less drying and I like the slight dewiness it gives to make cheeks look plump and fresh (do I sound like I’m describing a chicken breast? Sorry!) I find a creamier product glides over foundation more easily and doesn’t settle in lines like some powders can. What’s more, I double mine up as a little lip colour and add a slick of gloss over the top which means one less item to carry in my already over cluttered bag!

* Don’t apply colour too low on the face as it can drag cheeks down; a pop of colour on the top of the apples of the cheeks is perfect.

* If you’re not used to wearing a blusher, it’s easy to get confused when looking for the right shade. A good way to choose is to go for a colour that gives you a glow of health – as if you’ve just had an energetic romp with your hubby – or in my case, been chasing the dog around the kitchen to get the TV remote back!

* Use your finger tips to apply gently tapping and pressing to blend the colour from the top of the cheek in a slight diagonal line up to the hairline to the ear.

Bobbi Brown

Bobbi Brown’s award winning Pot Rouge for Lips & Cheeks is hard to beat. It’s fairly expensive at £19 but you can bet you’ll find at least one of these little beauties in the makeup kit of most top makeup artists. It’s available in 10 wearable shades.

My favourite at the moment is Vivo Cheeky Cream Blush, £3.99. I wear Bloom which suits my complexion but it’s also available in Pink Glow and Flush. Easy on the purse, perfect on the cheeks!

Excellent tips and interesting point overall. I didn’t wear blusher until I was about 25 and then I found I couldn’t do without it lol unless going heavy on the eyes. I love that it makes the face look more alive- definitely a plus point in the modern zombie-fying lifestyle!

Hi Dapperdolly! Thanks for dropping by my blog. I think blush is a must have for most of us to look at least half awake! X
