Review: The Titanic Spa Huddersfield

When I was asked whether I wanted to sample the delights of the Titanic Spa in Huddersfield, UK’s first eco spa with a number of sustainable initiatives including organic treatments, an organic food menu and its very own natural water source, I said ‘no thank you’ haha, as if – I said SIGN ME UP!

I set off on a rainy Monday morning with my daughter, Aimee – who works so hard and needed the getaway more than anyone I know and we had the best time!

Immediately after arriving we snuggled up in the spa’s cosy slippers and robes and couldn’t wait to try out the Titanic Heat & Ice Experience. Well, I did the full shebang, rubbed myself with ice, then spent time stretched out in the sauna, breathed in delicious mind clearing scent in the aromatherapy room and meditated in the Crystal Steam Bath…bliss!

Aimee who wraps up like a burrito even in summertime, skipped the cold parts but made me go full Wim Hoff, laughing as I squealed under the cold bucket of water. It felt fabulous though and even better once I’d warmed up with a coffee and biscuits.

I was determined not to go overboard with biscuits because I’d heard some great things about the locally sourced food which Aimee and I both agreed after a totally mouth-watering lunch, were justified.

When we stumbled across the Relaxation Lounge I was delighted and sad all at once. Delighted at the sheer comfiness of it all – the puffy-soft relaxation beds, large snooze bean bags with crackling fire with low dimmed lights. I mean! But sad because now I’ve experienced it, I want one in my house but it’s too small! The lounge creates the perfect atmosphere to to totally switch off and it was so difficult to drag ourselves away.

I was ready for a nap – this spa-life had me zoning out of stress city and into chill lane – and this was even before succumbing to the hot stone massages from heaven! My therapist Julie used Elemis oils with Frangipani and other super hydrating and beautifully scented ingredients. I drifted off during the treatment and Aimee told me not to mention that her treatment was so relaxing she was out like a light and woke herself up snoring. But hey, what’s a mum for if not to embarrass their children?!

We floated back to our stunning spa apartment which contained everything you’d want from a weekend or overnight stay – including a gorgeous complimentary hamper full of delectable goodies which we snuffled through within minutes.

We thought about dressing up for dinner but felt so deliciously jelly-limbed after the restful few hours we’d had that we could just about manage to prise ourselves out of our robe and slippers into a t-shirt and joggers. And forget about makeup – that was just too much effort. It was bare-faced chic for us as we headed to the cocktail bar.

The uber-cool cocktail bar was – as my daughter announced – ‘so lush’ and perusing the menu – uhhming and ahhing over the range of indulgent cocktails on offer, kept us quiet for a while. Like mother like daughter – the Pornstar Martini was the number one choice and it was absolutely perfect.

We dined on the finest organic foods for dinner and thankfully, the waiting staff were so helpful making suggestions for us because it was so hard to choose! Then, feeling happy and full, we headed back to our comfy room to watch Married at First Sight UK and snooze.

The next day, we both agreed we’d had the best night’s sleep we’d had in ages. Full of energy and feeling totally revitalised, we headed down for a swim and chat in the hot tub looking over the breath-taking hills of the Pennines before heading back home.

I was so tempted to head back to the Relaxation Lounge but Aimee was worried she wouldn’t get me out in time for our train back to London, so I am already making a plan to head back and stay a little longer next time!

Thank you so much Titanic Spa for inviting us – it was the perfect mum and daughter treat and such a relaxing escape from the stresses of every day life that came at just the right time for both of us!

If you would like to experience the delights of The Titanic Spa – I would suggest you take a partner or a friend and book yourselves in for a treat. They have some great mid-week spa day and overnight stay offers and a voucher would make a fabulous gift!
